Block Surfacing & Decking – FAQs

Block surfacing restores the flatness of the engine block surface, ensuring a perfect seal for the head gasket. Decking adjusts piston-to-head heights for precise engine geometry, which is especially important in performance and race engines.

Over time, engine blocks can warp, corrode, or suffer damage from overheating or wear. Surfacing ensures a leak-free seal and proper alignment, preventing head gasket failures and improving engine efficiency.

Decking removes precise amounts of material to achieve specific piston-to-head heights, ensuring correct compression ratios, valve clearance, and cylinder squareness. This improves engine performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Most petrol and diesel engine blocks can be machined using our CNC Surface Mill. We inspect each block to determine the safest and most effective approach.

Our CNC Surface Mill achieves extremely tight tolerances, ensuring flatness, squareness, and surface finish that meet manufacturer or custom performance specifications.
